Tune Up Your Diet

Tune Up Your DietGiving your diet a tune up can have some extraordinary benefits with just a little effort. Instead of trying to follow the latest and greatest diet, try incorporating a few simple tricks to make a dramatic impact on your nutrition and health.

Decrease Heavily Processed Foods

Although convenient, heavily processed foods don’t support your overall nutrition. Most of the time there is added fat, sugar, sodium and chemicals. If the added items aren’t enough to steer you away from these foods, what is removed should get you running. Typically fiber, phytonutrients and antioxidants are removed from processed food.

Reading the label is the best suggestion. If a label has ingredients that you typically don’t find in your home kitchen it is most likely highly processed and something that shouldn’t be consumed often, if at all.

Increase Consumption of Whole Foods

Whole foods contain fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients (nutrients found in plants). Our bodies need a variety of nutrients to stay healthy. Eating a variety of foods helps us to have a well-rounded diet. The thermic effect of food is important. It burns more calories typically to digest whole foods than processed foods.

Drink Mostly Water

“Thousands have lived without love, none without water.” W. H. Auden

Looking for a wonder drug? Look no further than the tap, water helps your body in many ways including:

  • Removing toxins
  • Keeping your skin and heart healthy
  • Preventing constipation
  • Fighting infection and reducing risk of cancer
  • Preventing joint pain and arthritis
  • Boosting energy level
  • Weight Loss

Instead of reinventing your diet, try just a few of these simple tricks to put you on the path to a healthier lifestyle.
