The winter chill is behind us, leaving longer days, verdant grass, and blooms aplenty. If you’re feeling the pull to get out there and enjoy it, by all means do, as a host of recent studies highlight the many benefits of immersing yourself in Mother Nature. Read on for some extra motivation then boogie on outdoors.

Green space is tops for mental health. A February 2019 study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that, among 940,000 Danish children born between 1985 and 2003, those raised in homes surrounded by the least amount of green space had a higher relative risk—up to 55 percent higher—for developing a psychiatric disorder than those who grew up among green environs.

Being outdoors begets movement. A 2015 analysis of four American studies, 11 European studies, and one Australian study found that the more time you spend outside, the more you move.

A little nature goes a long way. February 2019 findings from the University of Alabama at Birmingham suggest that spending just 20 minutes in a park can boost your mood and mitigate stress.

Whether you choose to lounge and enjoy the sounds of birds, or engage in a competitive game of cornhole, it’s a win for your wellness.
